July/August Featured Selection from “The Revolutionary Philosophy of Marxism”

After delving into Lenin’s and Trotsky’s philosophical notebooks in our May/June IMT organization-wide readings, we will now explore some of the early notes by Marx and Engels on philosophy and dialectical materialism, as featured in The Revolutionary Philosophy of Marxism. These writings were only found and published in the early 20th century and they weren’t originally meant for publication—as Engels famously explained, their main purpose was that of “self-clarification.” They nonetheless represent an enormous resource for revolutionary Marxists to study the history of philosophy, the dialectical-materialist method in general, and its application to history and the development of humanity in particular.
