November/December Featured Selection from “The Revolutionary Philosophy of Marxism”

Throughout the year, comrades and sympathizers of Socialist Revolution have been discussing excerpts from The Revolutionary Philosophy of Marxism. These readings and discussions on dialectical materialism are part of a collective effort to deepen our understanding of revolutionary theory, in order to successfully transform society. After all, Marxism represents the synthesized experience, historical memory, and guide to action of the working class in our struggle against capitalism.

In the final readings for the year, Trotsky delves into the relationship between socialism and scientific progress. Written in 1925, Stalinism had not yet secured its death grip on the Russian Revolution, and the potential for the newly established property relations to revolutionize science seemed unlimited. Today, we live in a world in which the objective potential for socialism is incomparably greater. In this context, Trotsky’s revolutionary optimism and insights into the socialist transition between capitalism and communism are of tremendous interest and relevance.
